This afternoon, your local officials joined me on a call with representatives from the National Weather Service, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), and Oncor Electric Delivery to discuss the continuing threat from winter weather and mass power outages in Collin County. I'm grateful for the partnership of our Congressmen, state senators, state representatives, mayors, and school superintendents - as well as your county commissioners and sheriff - who are all working together with us to serve the community during the current weather emergency.

I am confident that there will be many investigations and legislative hearings in the near future to determine the reasons behind the state's power system failures, but right now I want to focus on keeping our community safe and warm through the remainder of this week.

As you know, more winter weather is forecast for tonight and tomorrow. After our meeting with Oncor officials, it appears that our current electricity issues will continue for the rest of this week. I hate to have to deliver this news, but it's very important to be clear on this point. Anyone who has had little or no power in the last 24 hours should expect the same for at least the next 48 hours. Even those who have been blessed to have power over the last 24 hours should be prepared in case their power also goes out.

Several locations have already been identified to provide emergency heat and shelter to our community, and I anticipate more will open as needed. I've provided the current list below, and the TDEM website will be updated with information throughout this week.

But most of all, I want to appeal to all Collin County families to check on one another, to help one another, and to care for one another. If you have a warm home, please share it with your family, your friends, and your neighbors. Take time to check on each other, especially the elderly and those who live alone. It's important that we pull together as a community and care for one another during this difficult week.
