City Council Meetings

NOTE: Minutes for the latest months meeting are not shown until approved at the next month's first regularly scheduled meeting.

Regularly scheduled meetings of the Weston City Council are held the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at City Hall, 301 Main Street at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.

Agendas will be posted on our website a minimum of 72 hours before the scheduled meeting start. Minutes will be posted following approval at the subsequent City Council meeting. The agenda is posted on the front porch of City Hall (301 Main St) and the bulletin board at the Community Center (117 Main St).

In order for the Council to hear comments or requests from the public, a Public Comment segment is included at the beginning of each meeting’s agenda. A Request to Address City Council must be completed. The form may be submitted online no later than 3pm the day of the meeting or delivered to the City Secretary at the meeting place prior to the meeting being called to order. The form is also available at the registration table in Council Hall.

Consider and act on Resolution 2023-06-01 of the City Council of the City of Weston, Texas approving an engagement agreement relating to Bond Counsel Services (Mayor)

The City of Weston, Texas (the “City”) desires to issue bonds and other obligations from time to time for various public purposes authorized by Texas Statutes, in order to finance or refinance various public projects;

Bracewell LLP’s (“Bracewell” or the “Firm”) is a full service firm that includes a national public finance practice and has the necessary competence, qualification and experience to serve as bond counsel for the City.

The City and Bracewell do not have any prior engagements or relationships or other information regarding the nature of any relationships between the political subdivision and the firm as described in §2254.1036(c) of the Texas Government Code;

The City’s attorneys and supporting personnel do not have the required experience, qualifications or resources to adequately perform bond counsel services for the issuance of bonds or other obligations;

Given the nature of bond counsel services and the source of payment therefor (being from the proceeds of bonds or other obligations issued by the City) such legal services cannot reasonably be obtained from attorneys in private practice under a contract providing for the payment of hourly fees without contingency; and

Entering into a contingent fee contract with Bracewell for bond counsel services is in the best interest of the residents of the City as the City will have competent, qualified and experienced counsel to advise on the issuance of the bonds and other obligations, and the provision of such legal services will not financially impact the City as the compensation for such services will be paid from the proceeds of such bonds or other obligations.
